Sometimes you just need a pint and a proper chat. That’s how Pints with Purpose started, not as a campaign or a movement, but as a way for men in Plymouth to get together, talk a bit, listen a bit, and realise they’re not on their own. It’s simple, it’s local, and it happens every month at The Maritime Inn on the Barbican.
The Maritime is the home of Pints with Purpose, thanks to Andy and his belief in what this stands for. It’s one of those pubs that still feels real, proper bar, good people, no nonsense. Andy’s given the space, the time, and the welcome that keeps this thing running. Every month, new faces turn up, old faces return, and there’s a sense that this little corner of the Barbican is quietly making a difference.
It started as something small. I didn’t have a massive circle of mates, and I figured there were probably plenty of other blokes in the same boat. No big plan, no committee, no agenda, just a thought that a few decent conversations over a pint might do some good. Turns out it did.
We meet the last Sunday of every month at The Maritime Inn. There’s no RSVP, no sign-up form, and no expectation other than turning up. Some nights it’ll be loud, some nights it’ll be quiet, but it’s always honest. If you fancy it, you’ll find us at the bar. That’s all there is to it.
This isn’t sponsored, polished, or trying to be some glossy pub guide. There’s no scoring system, no affiliate links, no brand deals. It’s a personal take on the city’s pub scene, warts, pints, and all. If that sounds alright to you, have a nose around. If it doesn’t, you’re probably not my people.
Life gets heavy sometimes, and most men are useless at saying so. Pints with Purpose isn’t a fix for that, but it’s a start. It’s a reminder that we’re all human, all muddling through, and that good conversation and a decent pint can still go a long way. No slogans. No speeches. Just a reason to show up, and keep showing up.
Plymouth on Tap wouldn’t be what it is without the sponsors who get behind it and back the bigger ideas, so a huge thank you to every business that’s already supported the project and helped keep it moving. Your support helps cover the real costs of running it properly, and it means I can keep shining a light on Plymouth’s pubs, telling their stories, and giving the local hospitality scene the attention it deserves.

If you fancy putting your name behind something people actually care about, I’m always up for chatting about sponsorship for events like a pub crawl or the annual Plymouth’s Favourite Pub competition, which reached 6.9 million views on the Facebook page in 2025. Drop me a message and I’ll send over the options.
