How the competition works
The 64 pubs have been randomly drawn into 16 groups of four, Groups A to P. During Round One, each group will have its own vote.
The pub receiving the most votes in each group will progress, leaving us with the final 16. From there, the competition becomes a straight knockout until only two pubs remain for the grand final.
And then Plymouth chooses its winner.
The rules
We want Plymouth’s Favourite Pub to be fun, fair and, most importantly, a celebration of the city’s pubs.
A few simple rules apply:
- Each person should vote for the pub they genuinely want to progress.
- Voting takes place through the official Plymouth on Tap competition posts on the Facebook page only (not Instagram).
- Only votes cast within the stated voting period will count.
- The pub with the highest number of valid votes when voting closes progresses to the next stage.
- Pubs are absolutely encouraged to share their vote and ask customers, regulars, friends and followers for support.
- Fake accounts, automated voting or other deliberate attempts to manipulate a result may be discounted.
- If a vote finishes level, Plymouth on Tap will use a tie-break vote to determine which pub progresses.
- Any venue that withdraws from the competition will be removed from the draw. Where practical, Plymouth on Tap may replace it before that stage of the competition begins.
- Plymouth on Tap reserves the right to make a final decision where an unexpected situation arises that isn’t covered by these rules.
Above all, keep it friendly.
Support your favourite, make some noise for your local and enjoy the competition. There is absolutely no need to tear another pub down to build yours up.
How were the final 64 chosen?
Being nominated did not automatically guarantee a place in the competition.
There were more nominations than spaces available, duplicate nominations, venues that chose not to take part and some decisions that had to be made about which venues best fitted the spirit of Plymouth’s Favourite Pub.
The competition requires exactly 64 venues, so the final field was selected from those nominations before the draw took place.
Making the final 64 is an achievement in itself.
When does voting happen?
A new competition vote will go live at 8pm every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
There will be no scheduled competition votes on Fridays or Saturdays.
Keep an eye on Plymouth on Tap throughout the competition for each new group, results, the knockout draw and updates as we work our way towards the final.
What is Plymouth’s Favourite Pub actually about?
Quite simply, it’s about putting Plymouth’s pubs in front of people.
One of the reasons Plymouth on Tap runs the competition is because there are brilliant pubs all over this city that people simply don’t know about.
You mention a pub to someone and far too often the answer is:
“I’ve never been there.”
This competition gives 64 venues a platform, gets people talking about pubs outside their usual patch and, hopefully, gives a few people a reason to walk through the door of somewhere they’ve never tried before.
Winning is brilliant.
But if someone discovers their new favourite pub along the way, the competition has done its job.
Who won last year?
The Dolphin was crowned Plymouth’s Favourite Pub in 2025 after a competition that saw thousands of votes cast for pubs across the city.
They return in 2026 to defend the title.
Can they do it twice?
Or will somebody new take the crown?
Plymouth’s Favourite Pub 2026 starts Sunday 6 September at 8pm.
64 pubs. One winner. Plymouth decides.
